چکیده

Marine biosurfactant-producing bacteria were isolated from the soft coral Sarchophyton glaucum collected from Red sea. The main criteria used for screening of biosurfactant producers were haemolytic activity, dropcollapse, oil displacement and emulsification index. Based on phenotypic characterization and analysis of 16S rDNA sequencing the most potent isolate was identified as Bacillus sp.E34. To the best of our knowledge, this work is one of the early attempts to isolate and characterize biosurfactant-producing bacteria from soft coarls. Molasses enhanced biosurfactant production and maximum production occurred at 96 h incubation. The Plackett–Burman design was implemented to screen the medium components that significantly influence the production. The biosurfactant was stable over a wide range of pHs, temperatures and salinity, and had a good degree of emulsification with different hydrophobic substrates. Based on FT-IR analysis it was identified as glycolipopeptide. The biosurfactant is a potential candidate for bioremediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated sites as well as in other industrial applications. [Mona E. M. Mabrouk, Eman M. Youssif, Soraya A. Sabry. Biosurfactant production from marine bacteria associated with sponge Callyspongia diffusa

Marine-derived biosurfactants have gained significant attention due to their structural and functional diversity. Biosurfactant production was performed using bacteria associated with Callyspongia diffusa, a marine sponge inhabiting the southern coast of India. A total of 101 sponge-associated bacteria were isolated on different media, of which 29 isolates showed positive result for biosurfacta...

Biosurfactants from marine bacterial isolates

Biosurfactants are extracellular surface active compounds produced by bacteria, fungi and yeast. Most microbial surfactants are complex molecules, comprising different structures that include lipopeptides, glycolipids, polysaccharide protein complexes, fatty acids and phospholipids. In the past two decades, biosurfactants have gained increasing attention due to their useful properties such as b...

Optimization of the Production of Biosurfactant by Psuedomonas aeruginosa HR Isolated from an Iranian Southern Oil Well

In this study 152 bacterial strains were isolated from the contaminated oils in the southwest of Iran. Hemolysis was used as a criterion for the primary  isolation of biosurfactant producing-bacteria. Fifty five strains had haemolytic activity , among them tweleve strains were good biosurfactant producers by measuring surface tension and emulsification activity. Two microorganism showe...

Optimization of biosurfactant production by Bacillus brevis using response surface methodology

The present study aims to evaluate and validate a statistical model for maximizing biosurfactant productivity by Bacillus brevis using response surface methodology. In this respect, twenty bacterial isolates were screened for biosurfactant production using hemolytic activity, oil spreading technique, and emulsification index (E24). The most potent biosurfactant-producing bacterium (B. brevis) w...

A marine sponge associated strain of Bacillus subtilis and other marine bacteria can produce anticholinesterase compounds

BACKGROUND Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors or anticholinesterases reduce the activity of enzyme acetylcholinesterase that degrades the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain. The inhibitors have a significant pharmacological role in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's etc. Although plants have been a significant source of these compounds, there are very few s...
